I created this, in hopes to show some very clean typography, and simple use of minimal graphics to convey a message in the wikipedia wordmark. The dots from the letter "i"'s have moved over top of the "w", and are now being juggled. This could be viewed as the handling of all the information between users etc. Simple, and clean, I hope. I look forward to your comments.

As the creator of this logo, and a designer by trade, I would like to offer some general comments, mostly aimed at the concern over how the logo would "translate".

Generally speaking, if a logo is commissioned, a guideline is set to address as many issues as possible, to solve problems created when trying to portray a message clearly. This has been set out in the guidelines for the Wikipedia logo. The danger in this, is the standardization of identification. It is very important when trying to establish a recognizable logo. This is critical. No matter what language, the logo needs to be distinguishable.

My point is, that whatever logo is selected, should be something that will reside on ALL related Wikipedia content. As well, it should not be altered. At a later date, once the logo has become a recognizable icon, like Google for instance, it is okay to "play with it on holidays". Otherwise, the logo should be left in it's true form, hammering home the identity for everyone to get use to it's form and function.

Look at any CNN website. Be it Italian, French, German, or Japanese, The CNN logo is still CNN (The Cable Network), and the icon is STILL "CNN". Even though we all know that "The Cable Network" Translated into any of these languages does not spell out "CNN". Get EVERYONE use to seeing the logo, and it won't matter what language it is.

Wikipedia is a made up word. Work hard on making it a household name, like Google, and it won't need translation.
