Another one from the Neolux stable!
No real symbolism here except perhaps something related to books or a bookcase.
I'll make up something else soon, so it responds to the brief a little better. For the moment, it's just something that looked cool. (well everyone else was doing it!)

Looks cool: very clean and simple. But I keep seeing either EI or I3 when I look at it.

I like the stylized bookshelf concept. If I may offer a few suggestions:
1. Rotate the image 90 degrees, so the books are upright, not stacked.
2. Increase the number of books to seven: one each in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet.
3. If possible, blend the colours in a continuous rainbow spanning the whole set, from Red on the left through Violet on the right, symbolizing the spectrum of human knowledge.
4. Add thin lines toward the top and bottom of the books to suggest a gilded spine, like many encyclopaediae have.
5. Remove the top shelf, so there's only the one under the books; this makes it clearer that these are books resting on a shelf.
6. Bookends: Add an isosceles triangle, perhaps half as tall as the books, on each end of the shelf.
7. Good luck! :)

Well, here are your suggestions put into practice. To be honest, I don't like it much. Way too colourful for my tastes, and mildly similar to the Gay Pride flag. I am a minimalist by nature, and all that colour just screams at me. :) Thanks for your input and suggestions though Sty. Neolux 01:15, 11 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Neo: Thanks for giving it a shot. I agree the colours are a bit much, but shapewise it does resemble books on a shelf. How about trying it with your original various shades of blue? (By the way, if you look closely at the aforementioned flag, you'll notice that the "rainbow" is wrong, anyway.)
Follows Instructions: A+

I tried toning down the colour so it doesn't scream as much and looks more like a natural spectrum, but it still risks association with the GP flag. Bugger. I say go back to the blues, maybe making the books darker to lighter toward the centre or vice-versa, for symmetry. Worth a shot.

the original is best
[edit]I like the clean lines of it and the blue colors, too. And the way a person can make a W out of the lines or [[ ]] if they wish. - Teresag — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.225.230.7 (talk) 14:24, 28 August 2003 (UTC)
